Born in Hong Kong, why.candle was founded by a team with roots in fashion, marketing, and photography. We started with a vision to challenge the traditional visual of the candle industry—moving away from rigid shapes and toward 'formless' creativity. What began with a search for the perfect, clean-burning pearl wax has grown into a community of daydreamers who believe that every vessel in your home deserves a second life and a new light.

It all started at a wedding.

Aaron is a wedding photographer, and at an overseas event, we watched sand candles transform an entire venue — hundreds of flickering flames in every kind of glass imaginable. What struck us wasn't just the beauty. It was the freedom. The candle became whatever vessel you chose.

Back in Hong Kong, we spotted a gap: nobody was doing this here, and every Western brand we found was missing something essential — scent. Most sand candles are just unscented wax beads. Fragrance feels like an afterthought.

Coming from design and fashion, I'm a perfectionist. I didn't just want the look of a sand candle; I wanted the soul of a luxury candle. After months of failed kitchen experiments, we partnered with professional technicians to engineer something new — a scent-infused pearl where fragrance lives inside every single grain, consistent from the first minute to the last.
